London Minute #2 - Rotherhithe



A walk, passing from SE15 into SE16, reminders to #DefendTheDen (and thankfully maybe they can) and of the threats (yes they are) of land-grabbing 'regeneration' - passing the already changing Surrey Quays and leaseholders overcharged in John Kennedy House, to promises of 'surprisingly central' (eh?) luxury apartments. And you are at Greenland Quay, and yachts, and perhaps Harold Shand waving from a not-too-distant balcony. So much can probably be said about SE16: the changes, the history, the attempts to keep some character - in the form for example of the red Scotch derrick crane - because enough has probably been lost already. People are not just keeping the developers' seats warm here, waiting until the land is worth something because of the character that has been built up and then moving along for the investors to reap the rewards. Around here is always a reminder of why where we are is worth fighting for. Anyway, for now, just the second 1 minute video...
